Hip & Joint 2.0 Frequently Asked Questions

Hip & Joint 2.0 is a daily chew designed to support joint health and mobility in active and aging dogs. It’s formulated to help maintain comfortable movement, flexibility, and overall joint function as dogs age or stay physically active.

Hip & Joint 2.0 was built with a higher bar. Instead of trendy ingredients or vague blends, we focused on purposeful ingredients, clear inclusion levels, and formulations developed alongside veterinary and nutrition experts.

We looked closely at what was missing in this category—under-dosed formulas, confusing claims, and little transparency—and made intentional choices to do better. The result is a daily chew designed to support joint health and mobility with clarity, care, and integrity.

Simply put: this is the supplement we wanted for our own dog, made with the same rigor we expect from products that truly matter.

The formula supports several systems involved in joint function, including joint lubrication, connective tissue health, and maintenance of a healthy inflammatory response. It’s designed for consistent daily use as part of a long-term approach to joint health, not as a medication or quick fix.

Daily dosage based on weight:

○ Up to 25 lbs: 1 chew

○ 26–75 lbs: 2 chews

○ Over 75 lbs: 3 chews

● Chews may be given all at once or split throughout the day.

Results are gradual. Many pet parents notice improvements in ease of movement or stiffness after about 4 weeks of consistent daily use. Individual results vary based on age, activity level, and overall health.

Hip & Joint 2.0 is intended for adult dogs, generally 12 months and older, once they’ve reached full skeletal maturity. Puppies should only use joint supplements if recommended by a veterinarian.

The natural scent comes from the Omega-3 fatty acids, which are sourced from anchovy oil. We prioritize ingredient integrity over masking aromas with artificial flavors. A mild fishy smell is normal and expected.

Our formula contains hydrolyzed chicken liver, not intact chicken protein, included at a minimal level in the inactive portion of the chew.

Hydrolyzed protein is broken down into very small peptides through a specialized process.
Because the protein is “pre-digested” into smaller fragments, it is much less likely to trigger an immune response compared to whole chicken ingredients.

That said, every dog is different. While many dogs with chicken sensitivities tolerate hydrolyzed protein well, we always recommend speaking with your veterinarian if your dog has a confirmed or severe chicken allergy.

We use hydrolyzed chicken liver strictly for palatability and digestibility, not as a primary protein source.

If you have specific concerns, our team is always happy to help.

The chews are formulated without wheat, corn, or soy. They do contain fish-derived ingredients and hydrolyzed chicken protein. If your dog has known sensitivities, review the ingredient list and consult your veterinarian.

Yes. Hip & Joint 2.0 is formulated for daily use as part of a long-term wellness routine. If your dog has a medical condition or is taking medication, consult your veterinarian before use.

Store in a cool, dry place away from heat and direct sunlight. Reseal the bag tightly after each use. No refrigeration required.

Hip & Joint 2.0 Chews are made in the USA. Our manufacturing facility meets some of the highest quality and safety standards in the pet health industry, certified by NASC and SQF, and complies with APHIS and FAMI-QS guidelines. These are standards that require strict quality controls, traceability, and regular third-party audits.

Absolutely. And the most important part of our formulation starts with what we didn’t include.

We intentionally left out two ingredients found in many dog joint supplements: glucosamine and chondroitin.

Not because they’re unsafe,  but because peer-reviewed studies show they do not meaningfully improve pain, mobility, or joint function in dogs with joint discomfort. Yet they’re still everywhere because they’re cheap to source, easy to market, and familiar to pet parents.

Here is the current peer-reviewed
research that informed this decision:

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36142319/
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35958315/
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36816197/

So instead of relying on outdated, low-signal ingredients, we rebuilt our formula around compounds with clearer biological roles and stronger scientific support.

Every ingredient below was chosen because it plays a direct, functional role in joint structure, lubrication, inflammation balance, or tissue resilience.  And because the science behind it is active, modern, and measurable.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids (200 mg EPA + DHA)

Peer-reviewed research →

Omega-3s are structural fatty acids that integrate directly into joint tissues and inflammatory pathways. EPA and DHA are widely studied for supporting a healthy inflammatory response and connective tissue integrity.

Why it matters: Our EPA + DHA levels are among the highest in a chew, because dose actually matters.

Green-Lipped Mussel

Peer-reviewed research →

Green-lipped mussel provides a naturally occurring matrix of omega fatty acids, glycosaminoglycans, and trace nutrients associated with joint structure and comfort.

Why it matters: It supports flexibility and range of motion through multiple complementary mechanisms, not a single legacy compound.

Krill Meal

Peer-reviewed research →

Krill delivers omega-3s in phospholipid form, which may improve utilization within tissues compared to triglyceride forms.

Why it matters: Better delivery means better functional support at the joint level, plus antioxidant activity.

Hyaluronic Acid

Peer-reviewed research →

Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of synovial fluid and connective tissue.

Why it matters: It supports lubrication, shock absorption, and smooth joint movement.
These are functions glucosamine was originally assumed to support, but never reliably proved to.

Astaxanthin

Peer-reviewed research →

Astaxanthin is a potent marine-derived antioxidant.

Why it matters: It helps protect joint and muscle cells from oxidative stress associated with normal activity and aging, supporting long-term mobility.

Ashwagandha

Peer-reviewed research →

Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic botanical studied for its role in physical resilience and muscle function.

Why it matters: Joint health isn’t just cartilage. Muscle support and stress response play a real role in how dogs move and age.

Zinc

Peer-reviewed research →

Zinc is an essential trace mineral involved in connective tissue formation and cellular metabolism.

Why it matters: It supports cartilage integrity and normal tissue repair as part of long-term joint structure maintenance.

Yes. Little Chonk is a member of the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC), and Hip & Joint 2.0 carries the NASC Quality Seal.

The Quality Seal isn’t a sticker you can buy. To earn it, a company must pass an independent third-party audit of its quality control processes and pass re-audits every two years to keep it. Members are required to follow written standard operating procedures for manufacturing, testing, and quality assurance, adhere to strict labeling and claims guidelines, and participate in NAERS, the NASC’s real-time adverse event reporting system that monitors products for safety signals across the industry. NASC also conducts random independent testing of Quality Seal products to verify that what’s on the label is what’s in the jar.

NASC works cooperatively with the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine and state regulators, and its program is widely considered the benchmark for quality and transparency in animal health supplements.

We formulated Hip & Joint 2.0 with board-certified veterinarians, and we hold our manufacturing to the same standard. The seal is how you can verify that independently, without taking our word for anything.

We called this the magic

"We called this the magic treat in our household. Our four year-old cowboy corgi Dixon has gotten so much pain relief, and anxiety, relief from this one supplement it really can’t be put into words !thank you for making this supplement. Our family feels so excited that we found it, and Dixon is happy to be back to playing with his brother!"

I feel so good giving

"I feel so good giving this to my 4 year old Red Heeler/Malinois lovedog. It’s for preventative measures as he’s pretty active and climbs a lot of stairs everyday up and down our three story walk up. I want to protect his joints and overall health as best I can. Also eagerly awaiting the large backpacks to be in stock :)"

My corgi is nearly seven

"My corgi is nearly seven years old, and we had a scare with one of her elbows in the past year. I bought these hoping they'd help as a preventative measure of any decline moving forward, and I'm optimistic. My concern was that she wouldn't eat them. This pup is picky! She absolutely LOVES her "Maxine treats," though and wishes she could have more than two per day. Thank you, Little Chonk!"

I am thrilled at how

"I am thrilled at how well supplement works. My 12-year-old Chihuahua mix, Misty, was having a hard time getting up onto our bed. That is no longer a problem. I noticed that she is doing her happy playful dance as frequently as she used to. I couldn’t be happier. I originally bought this for my four year-four-year-old, Zuko. He has also showed improvement. But he’s a loaf of bread so he doesn’t jump much or happy dance much. But he does run around the yard like he’s running from the police. I could not be happier with the results Thank you so much!"

Game Changer

"Our 7 year old Corgi, Poppy, lost her brother in March. She had been extremely depressed, and the arrival of her new, 10 month old Corgi mix rescue brother didn’t help. She would not play with him. A few weeks ago I started giving her the hip & joint supplements and quickly noticed a difference. She has started playing with her little brother, running around and wrestling in the yard with him! She also is in a better mood in general and definitely has more of a spring in her step. She has her spark back. ❤️"

Suzanne B. (5/5)

My 10 year old Shep

"My 10 year old Shep mix didn’t seem to be (visibly) experiencing any hip or joint pain, but I did notice that he wasn’t as interested in playing fetch in the yard like he used to. He would go after his ball about three or four times then head to the gate to go back inside. Since starting him on these supplements only two weeks, he doesn’t want to stop playing! My old guy looks like a puppy again. Thank you!"

Julie M. (5/5)

We have now been using

"We have now been using this for our corgi extemely active 8 year old going on 9. We notice a HUGE difference when we don’t have it in her rotation. Such a game changer. Thank you!"

Supplements That Actually Work

"I just wanted to take the time and say thank you Little Chonk. My little Lord Pumpkin is unfortunately diagnosed with IVDD and has had 2 back surgeries the past couple of years. After the 2nd surgery we were told there'd be a good chance that he would not walk again. Thankfully after 6 months the little guy was able to walk a little but we were told no more progress would probably be made. I read up that these supplements are science based and figured we'd give them a shot just to see if it would maybe make a difference. After 7 months of taking these Lord Pumpkin is not just walking around now, he is full on running and Tokyo Drifting around the house! I truly believe these supplements played a part in him improving further because up until he started taking them his mobility was pretty limited. These supplements have my little guy feeling limitless now! Thank you Bryan & Maxine <3"

Jess V. (5/5)

We were quite pleased with

"We were quite pleased with our order. Albi is a Cardigan Corgi Fluff so when we saw Maxine had a new support chewy we bought it. Albi's stomach is very sensitive since birth, she experienced some vomiting & diarrhea when first using the chews but after a week or so she adjusted. The chew is very convenient and of course, she loved it. We will order again soon. Saw woof to Maxine from Albi!, Christine Glossman"

Christine G. (5/5)

Off to a good start.

"Off to a good start. My 30# mix thinks they taste yummy - yay there. We’re only 1. 5 weeks in. Now 12 years old, I noticed him hesitating to jump up on the bed and jump into the car. Walks have slowed down, but that could be the heat too. As a follower of MFC content I knew Bryan would make nothing but the best product. Here we are."
